Just saw "Robert Rodriquez presents: Predators." It was ok. What I would not like to confuse in this article is that the movie had immense potential. The theory could of really evolved on Nietzsche's Overman (or in English Superman concept) theory that he presented in his 1883 book Thus Spoke Zarathustra. I mean...the movie was all about the hunt, overcoming barriers to be a better predator, and even survival of the fittest. You can even parse it out to the evolution of the human race and the evolution of the Predators themselves. When all societies throw their rules out the door what becomes of the Overman?
In Friedrich Nietzche's book Thus Spoke Zarathustra he contends that "man is something which ought to be overcome." The book's protagonist, Zarathustra speaks...
"All beings so far have created something beyond themselves; and do you want to be the ebb of this great flood and even go back to the beasts rather than overcome man? What is the ape to man? A laughingstock or a painful embarrassment. And man shall be just that for the Overman: a laughingstock or a painful embarrassment…"
Nietzche became known as a madman and even an outcast. He always thought that truth and nature are inventions by means of which men escape from this world. The Overman is free from these hurtfully things. He also believed that the Overman is a goal humanity can set for itself and that human life would be given meaning by how it advanced a new generation of human beings.

Back to the movie...could it be that the Black Ops Alpha Male character was the Overman? How was his values shaped? What worked? What would this character take to his next battle? How would he change when context (situational circumstance different than what he was molded from) changed? Would he change at all? The ending of the movie did not connect, as a matter of fact I felt that the ending interaction between the madman doctor, Black Ops soldier, and female sniper should of brought back the evolution of the Overman theory. This would of set the stage for another movie...maybe even a more advance hunting area for which the Predators evolve...
Maybe in many ways the more interaction with different cultures and societies helps produce a better "Overman." What happens when AI (Artificial Intelligence), Aliens (just imagining!), uncontrolled genetic modifications ("disabilities,"viruses, unknown evolutionary traits), and many instances of the Overman were to exist in one hunt? Who would be the Over...?
